Sarah's Oil Movie Review

Sarah's Oil is a pleasantly surprising film whose greatest strength lies in making faith feel natural. It isn't preachy but it also isn't afraid of showing trust in God when there seems to be no hope. With warm and convincing performances, I found myself getting a little choked up at times especially during this line:

"You talked to me about my soul. Ain't nobody ever done that. Ain't nobody ever cared."

Which sums up the entire film. The oil may be what brings the characters together, but it's the salvation of a soul that ends up being the greatest treasure of all.

Although many have unfavorably critiqued this film from Angel, we did nonetheless sit down to watch it.

Don't suffer the same disappointment we experienced and skip over these titles when you are considering good movies for movie night. Some of the most disappointing for us were the seemingly Catholic titles Becket and Fatima. FIND THE MOVIES TO AVOID!

Director Mary Bowen was born in Western Washington and brought up in Washington, Idaho, and California. As a homeschool graduate and self-taught filmmaker, Mary now lives with her family in North Central Idaho. Her secret superpower is the ability to imagine a costume and complete it without ever looking at a pattern. She has been passionate about filmmaking for over a decade, premiering her first full-length film, Outlaws of Ravenhurst, in 2018. Inspired by The War of the Vandée by Navis Pictures, Mary knew early on that she wanted to make movies. Following Outlaws and several other film projects, she premiered the first installment of End of the Santa Fe Trail in early 2026. Now, she looks forward to directing Fabiola, her first full-budget film.

Faustina Bowen was born and raised in the beautiful states of Washington, Idaho and California. She now lives in North Central Idaho, dedicating her time to Industrious Family Films. Faustina is a homeschool graduate who graduated from Our Lady of Victory with High Honors. As a self-taught filmmaker, Faustina has been writing and organizing scripts from the early age of fourteen. Her love for crocheting led her to making liturgical lace, which merited her an invitation to the first Church mandated Traditional Ordination in Mexico since Vatican II. Although she has been writing scripts for over nine years, her love of acting is what drives her passion for filmmaking. She has starred in many of Industrious Family's previous films  and will act in Fabiola. Faustina oversees merchandising, funding, and our streaming service, Industrious Family Theater. She is also currently managing investments for Fabiola.
